At Barrs Court we teach French to children as part of the normal school curriculum. We believe that the earlier a child is exposed to a foreign language, the more quickly that language is aquired. Furthermore, learning a foreign language is an excellent way to develop intercultural understanding.
The children at Barrs Court really enjoy learning French. Here are some of the things we do.
We play French games.
We use puppets for role play. |
We write to French children.
We invite native French speakers into the classroom.
Each year we have a French assistant who teaches small groups throughout the school.
Our French assistant for 2008/2009 is Melanie. |
We listen to French songs and read French books.
Last year we took part in European Languages Day.
Year 6 children go on a residential visit to Geneva in the summer term.
They visit the Comenius link school.
They visit the local area.
They try French food.
They write French journals and send postcards home.
They visit the town and practice using their French.
